Portrait of Benjamin Sachwitz, Assistant Underwriter at Swamp Fox Agency
Currently

I underwrite commercial trucking and logging risk at Swamp Fox Agency, just outside Charleston, SC. I gravitate toward the tough accounts the standard markets pass on, the ones that take real digging to understand and structure well. I work hard, I try to do right by the people I deal with, and I am always building small tools on the side to make the job smoother.

Specialty Markets

The accounts others pass on

The trucking and logging accounts most markets decline. I dig into the safety data, the operations, and the story behind each one, the way I learned to on the Lloyd's floor in London.

Systems & Technology

Little tools that save real time

On the side I build small rating aids and calculators that take the busywork out of the day. Nothing flashy, just things that genuinely make the job easier.

Growth Strategy

Do right by producers

I care about the long game with the agents I work with. Learn what they actually need, be straight with them, and put together deals that still make sense at renewal.

Lloyd's Market Developer Workspace · London · 2025

I underwrite commercial trucking and logging risk across the Southeast. These are accounts you can't judge from a spreadsheet alone, so I put in the time on the safety data and the operations to really understand each one.

During my training at Price Forbes on the Lloyd's of London floor, I saw how complex cargo and property risks are placed in the world’s oldest specialty room. Today, I use that experience to underwrite durable risks at Swamp Fox Agency.

I build software that turns fiddly, annoying workflows into something clean and reliable. Native iOS apps in Swift, full-stack React sites, whatever the problem needs. I try to write code that's easy to come back to and quietly does its job.

Coming at it from a business and risk background makes me build a little differently. I care about getting the data right, keeping the screen uncluttered, and not overcomplicating things.

The path

From McLean youth sports to the Darla Moore School of Business, most of what I've done has come with real pressure attached. Running logistics at Augusta National during the Masters, supporting federal accounts at Carahsoft, learning the specialty cargo market in London: every one of them taught me to sweat the details, stay steady when it counts, and just be straight with people. I bring all of that to Swamp Fox.

The path

Everything I know about code, I taught myself. It started with little scripts to skip the manual data entry, and grew into full mobile apps and a few white-label web templates. What I love is taking a messy problem, like running fraternity recruitment or keeping a golf scorecard straight, and building a clean tool that just handles it, even offline.

Philosophy

It's the little things
that set us apart.

Show up, do the homework, and care about the small stuff nobody else bothers with. That's usually the whole difference, whether it's an account or an app.

What I bring.

Three disciplines, one operating system. Specialty insurance, applied technology, and deal-making, the toolkit I bring to every account.

Building high-performance utilities and scalable web apps. Mobile design, serverless backends, and AI workflows, the tools I use to build daily.

01
Core

Insurance & Risk

Specialty P&C underwriting, mostly trucking and logging. I spend my time in the loss data, the compliance side, and figuring out where an account really sits in the market before I put a number on it.

Technology & AI

I build the tools I wish underwriting already had. Two apps on the App Store and a handful of rating calculators I use day to day, put together with Swift, a bit of Vercel serverless, and a lot of trial and error.
